today is the second of the two audits mama's been working on for several months. everything's ready. mama says it's going to be good to come home at the end of today and be finished! we'll check in with everyone tonight...and get back to a more regular post/comment routine.

True confessions
Monica tagged me for the True Confessions meme. The rules are simple and loosely interpreted: tell about the naughty things we do--as many as we like--and tag as many friends as we like.
my naughty things mostly include food: food i eat, food i've stolen, and food i've thrown up
when mama is having something for dinner that i want, i sit next to her and touch her arm until she shares (sometimes with claws!).
if mama isn't paying close attention, i'll steal food from her plate. i've taken whole chicken breasts, steaks, pieces of pizza.
i've thrown up on/in the cable box; mama had to pay for a new one. i've thrown up on the bed: on the comforter, on the sheets, on the pillows. i've thrown up in the middle of the night and mama had to strip the bed right then. i've thrown up on window sills and down walls. (there should be a way to set my vomiting to a dr. seuss-type rhyme! mol)
let's see, i tag parker, yao-lin (although i'm sure he believes his naughtiness is his right), marie, miss peach, mu shue, obi (hi obi!), oscar, and anyone else who reads this and wants to play too!

waahoooo
audit number 1 is done. passed with 97%! there are a few corrections...things mama's known about for awhile...now to get the team working on them.

s=any time that i can convince mama to cuddle into bed with me
b=breakfast, snack, dinner, snack, tummy rub, scratch my ears, play with me. i like all those times!
m=the time right before falling asleep

s=saturday. mama sleeps in, and i sleep in with her.
b=any day. i like to get up. it's breakfast time!
m=sunday. quiet, peaceful. mine.
Season of the year:
s=winter. i can snuggle under the feather comforter all day long!
b=fall. my coat is almost grown back and i'm getting cozy.
m=spring and fall. i love sweater and sweatshirt weather. (ben doesn't know that he's getting another lion cut in late june or early july.)
Holiday:
s=new year's eve. if we're having company, it's a quiet evening. dinner is every purson's favorite meal...whatever that is.
b= advent and christmas. i love to play with the decorations and wrapping paper.
m=halloween has been one of my favorites. i was married to someone who didn't like the holiday, so i stopped decorating and enjoying it (not married to him anymore). and then my brother-in-law went to the human rainbow bridge this past halloween. those kinds of anniversaries have always had a big impact on me, so i'm curious to see if i can retain my enjoyment while remembering rich.
Beaches:
s=not my kind of trip, thanks.
b=nope, i've not been to the beach, but i think i'd like it! sand!
m=any beach in washington state. wild ocean, wind, salt air, shells, waves that chase you half-way up the sand!

b=i like when mama sings 'you are my sunshine' when she takes me out in the ptu.
m=i like lots of kinds of music. lately, i've been listening to norwegian fiddle, and some toby keith.

s=i only watch tv if i'm cuddled on mama's lap, and she doesn't watch talk shows.

munchies on monday
Mama's often mentioned that she has celiac disease. It both a digestive disease and an auto-immune disorder. There's lots of information available about celiac disease. instead of telling you about the disease, we're going to show you some of the things that mama eats.
Ener-g Foods is a local bakery that ships their products around the world. They have a small store front about 3 miles from here. mama buys tapioca bread, pretzels, and egg replacer there. (you can order directly from their website)
Namaste Foods is a company based in Idaho that makes mixes for some amazing snack stuff--brownies, pizza crust, etc. Their products are sometimes are hard to find, a little spendy, and totally worth the search! (you can order directly from their website)
One of the things that someone with celiac gets used to is an expanded food budget. For example, typical mac and cheese--at $1 a box or less--is out of the picture because the mac is made with wheat flour. Gluten-free versions frequently cost in the $3 to $4.50 per box range. The crackers (above) cost $3.49 for a 7 ounce box. Pretzels are $1.89 for a 4 ounce bag. A 1-lb (or less) loaf of bread is over $4.
Two of mom's favorite stores are Trader Joe's and Fred Meyer. Neither store is completely gluten-free, so shopping can take some time, but there are some mighty tasty things at both. A lot of the Indian fare at Trader Joe's is gluten-free. The salsas, especially our favorite corn salsa, are available there. They have chips, nuts, sauces, rice, rice pasta (which can--surprisingly--be used like regular wheat pasta, and tastes darn fine!), fresh fruit and veggies, as well as frozen fruit (mmm, smoothies).
Fred Meyer has a health food section, with a four-foot section of gluten-free foods. Four feet doesn't sound like much, but they have the basics: crackers, bread, pretzels, brownie mix.
The few places I listed are only a few of them that mama uses. There are lots that you can find on the net. And of course, there are some local places in many large cities--like Seattle--that specialize in gluten-free foods. They are places to be treasured!

we've got a visitor today
mama's friend carol is coming to visit today. mama will pick her up at the airport this afternoon. it's only an overnight visit as carol has to go home (to aberdeen...mama's home town) tomorrow. i plan to let carol pet me. (maybe mama can hold me and carol can take the picture of me in my new birthday hat?)
i call carol 'nana carol' because she's the closest thing i have to a grandma. she'll be 75 next friday! she and my mama have been friends since mama was 14 years old (that's almost 30 years!).

a day of rest
whew! i spent most of wednesday and thursday resting after the excitement of my birthday on tuesday!
i haven't had that much fun in...well, i don't know how long! there was cake and good things to drink. i had lots of guests, and so many happy birthday wishes.

TWO birthday presents!
wow...the mail has been full of fun stuff as my birthday gets closer! cousin daisymae maus and her mom (and the feline americans) made me a hammock bed. my great friend jeter harris sent me a LOVELY pink New York Yankees hat! thank you thank you!

ben2 got tagged for the '7 random things about me' meme by our cousin daisymae. i got tagged for it by caesar and prinnie.
like daisy, i'd like to invite everycat who is interested to write their own '7 random things...'
1. whenever mama leaves for an overnight away from home, i worry that she won't come back.
2. i sit on the table next to mama and convince her that for every bite of chicken she gets, i get one too. i'm very persuasive (or at least good at guilting her into sharing).
3. i can ooze into or through very small spaces...like through doors that are hardly open at all. maybe my name should be oozanne?
4. i am very clean, and give myself good baths. i also wash ben2, and have started washing mama's face. it used to be that i would give small affectionate licks. now i wash her face all over.
5. i love cheese...except fresh mozzarella! i don't know why i don't like it. mama says it's a real treat. hmmm.
6. i've traveled a lot, and i hate it. it's marginally better if mama will carry me inside of her sweater or sweatshirt instead of the ptu.
7. i get weighed on the digital kitchen scale once a month. i weigh 4 pounds 15 ounces.

Thursday Thirteen for my mama
With a nod to Jeter Harris for writing about his mom, here's 13 things about my mama:
1. mama was born in aberdeen, washington. this is a small town about 20 miles from the pacific ocean. it rains a lot there.
2. her birthday is on a day you will likely never forget: 9/11. (she'll be 44 this year.)
3. she's a social worker who supervises a big group of psychotherapists. she loves her job! as soon as her audit is done, mama is going to work on developing next year's internship program.
4. mama has 3 older sisters and an older brother. she is closer in age to daisymae maus's mom (mama's niece) than to her own sisters.
5. mama has played the piano since she was about 10 years old. she taught piano lessons while she was in graduate school.
6. she has celiac disease. she can't eat foods that have wheat, oats, barley or rye. when she was diagnosed last year, she gave away 13 bags of foods that were no longer safe for her to eat.
7. mama loves polar bears, and even has a small one tattooed on the inside of her left ankle. she says 'it hurt!'
8. mama's creative--although she's not necessarily talented. she used to run an art group as relapse prevention for women who were in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse.
9. she loves to drive fast. she doesn't usually do it, though, because she likes the insurance rates of no tickets. sometimes, though, she thinks 'tawanda!' ('face it girls, i'm older and have better insurance')
10. mama got a lot of our furniture from craigslist.
11. when mama has long distances to drive, she day dreams about winning big with the lottery. she likes to plan how she will spend the money--share it with family, endow a few programs, provide funding to local libraries, and create big funds for the care of animals who haven't yet found their forever homes.
12. she likes to nap, and would love to be able to take a nap every day!

Seven Random Facts About Me:
1) I love to bunny-kick catnip mice.
2) I will knead and purr really loud on almost any blanket that mom leaves out for me.
3) I get a lion cut once a year because I have trouble keeping my undercoat free of mats.
4) I might act humiliated when I get my lion cut, but I really don't mind. The new 'do is much easier to care for. I'm all about 'wash and wear'!
5) Mom's not sure if I'm a himalayan-siamese, a maine coon, or some combination of several. We all know I'm very handsome.
6) I don't like to be picked up, but I like to be held. I climb into mom's arms and crawl up to put my paws on her shoulder. Sometimes I put my nose in her ear and purr. She stops whatever she is doing and sighs 'cause she likes it so much.
7) I tell Suzanne that I don't like her, but I don't really mean it. I even let her snuggle with me!

tuesday morning meeting
the ceo (cat ever optimistic?) is meeting with the management team from mama's office this morning. he suggested a local shop that belongs to a major coffee company. mama chuckles because it's likely that he's the only one of the team that will drink coffee (why would a ceo--using my definition--want coffee?). mama prefers her caffeine from a can with fizz!

i received a a beautiful birthday card hand-made by miss peach's mom (miss peach is the second member of the sweet sixteens!). miss peach and her mom included a small bag of oh-so-excellent 'nip. here's me opening the card and enjoying its contents!

the day Suzanne fell behind the hot water heater. she fell face first into the tiny triangle made by putting something round into a corner. we had to drain the heater, use a dolly to move it out of the way, and hold the ankles of a skinny 15 year old boy who went head-first behind the heater to scoop her out. i think that used one of my lives.

research day
while mama was at the office today, i started researching birthday party themes. being well-educated (i've accompanied mama through 2 masters degrees and part of a doctorate), i do have fun exploring the internet. my biggest challenge is using the space bar...opposable thumbs would be good.
party themes are fun to research. since the party will likely be in june (although the date isn't set yet), maybe we'll go with something summery--a luau? i'll have to ask the poiland tribe for suggestions...although they may be back stateside by then.

weird words
mama's throwing around words and phrases like 'data accuracy' and 'data timeliness', 'file review', 'quality assurance', and 'come back here and fix your file!'
i'm a little nervous that i won't get much of a 16th birthday party because my birthday is right in the middle of all of those weird words. maybe she'll throw my party when she takes a week of vacation after the audit. will you come?
