the last...

"It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pay tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership — the American worker." US Dept of Labor

While Wikipedia has much to say about the American holiday, as well as international observances to recognize workers, many Americans see the first Monday in September as summer's last hurrah.

In some parts of the country, school starts in August or earlier. In Western Washington state, however, school typically starts the Tuesday or Wednesday following Labor Day.

This first 'last' Monday is spent on one last swim, the last big barbecue, last-minute buying school supplies, packing lunches, setting out 'first day of school' clothes, and trying to get to bed early enough to catch the bus in the morning.

Mom's going swimming.

It's Labour Day in Canada. School typically starts the Tuesday after Labour Day in most provinces (Quebec is an exception - they like to do everything differently). I hope your mom had a nice swim. I don't know why humans voluntarily go in the water like that!

Like Caesar & Princess's mommy I went shopping too! Got some new things for our kitchen & bath and went to Office Max & got $80 worth of school supplies (I had a gift card and some coupons from work, three empty ink jet containers -Office Max will give you $3 each for them - all I spend out of pocket was about $1.37! Is that cool or what!) We'll donate it all to our church's RE program and for the local school supply drive in Blaine that our church helps with. There are so many families who need help at this time of the year.

I hope that Toni had a lovely swim - I'd love to have a swimming pool in the back yard - scritches to Lucy & Ben all around. XOX Aunt Tina

Yeah, they already started school a couple of weeks ago around here. A lot of schools around here are year round schools, too. They get three week breaks, four times a year. My Lady is glad it was not that way when she was in school. She liked her summers.

Our Labor Day here is on May 1st.
Even the teachers and students can't have holiday, only us, the labor.
So, I like Labor day very much, there aren't many students or people will go to the movie theaters or department store or any travel place. I could enjoy many free space in this crowded city.

Swimming is a very good idea, it could totally relax, except Adan, Wahahahah~~~

Enjoy your holiday,
michico & Adan

Hi fuzzie and mum toni,
I hope you had a nice holiday day.
Fuzzie can you let your mum know that we we were looking at your mybloglog and joined up as a friend. However it has your moms first and last name listed and she might not want it there for some silly strangers to see.

Hmmm...banishment is not a good thing. Maybe we should play thundering herd of elephants just before bedtime...like 11 pm, and then when it's 7 am, we can play again!! In the meantime, we can snuggle and nap and snack when we like. What do you think, lil Lucy?

Hmmm... I'm not a big fan of water but my Mommy seems to like it so maybe it's a bean thing.

Cha-Ching: Hi Lucy! Umm, we got a new fish tank and they're putting fish in it. We can't eat them or nothing but they're fun to look at. Do you want to come see?
