happy

it's sunday evening. mama's had her shower, trimmed her toenails and my claws. the last load of laundry is in the washer. the kitchen is clean. it must be almost monday.

mama's going to make turkey taco meat tonight so she can take stuff for lunch this week. part of the frugality plan (as long as she doesn't skimp on our temptations!). she's also got left-over chicken curry.

do you have trader joe's where you live? they sell little packets of lavender to use in the dryer instead of a commercially scented dryer softie. mama likes to use those with the bedding. the scent lasts for nearly a week. mmm.

trader joe's also sells a bunch of other really great things that we almost always have in our house: corn salsa, pineapple salsa, curry simmer sauce--no wheat!, frozen fruit--inexpensive!, fresh mozzarella, thai rice sticks. for a person with celiac disease, they have some good stuff at reasonable prices, although labels still require careful perusal. you'd be surprised at some of the stuff that has wheat/oats/barley/rye! almost anything that's thickened uses some form of gluten-containing product. soy sauce has wheat (wheat-free tamari is an excellent substitute). white vinegar is not safe, although cider vinegar is fine.

probably funny that a kitty knows this much about celiac disease. but it's my job to watch out for my mama, so i read right along with her. got questions? drop me a line. i'll be like professor daisy and answer questions about how to eat with celiac.

We LOVE Trader Joe's ... They have excellent wide cat scratchers made with corrugated cardboard and super "sniffy" catnip that's about as good as Cosmic Catnip. TJ's also has frozen asparagus that Cocoa Puff LOVES and your mom is right about the inexpensive frozen fruit and veggies (Puffy's asparagas is only $1.99!) ... We're supposed to get a TJ's closer to us in the near future. That'll be nice 'cuz the ones we go to are in La Jolla and La Mesa (and sometimes Carmel Mountain Ranch) ... They're pretty far away with gasoline costing nearly $3.50/gal. here in San Diego ... Mom takes grandma with her and they go to a bunch of places and have lunch out when they do a "TJ's run" ... They also saw some good stuff that your mom would like ...

I wish I had a Trader Joe's near me, it sounds great. You are very good to learn about celiac disease so you can help your mama, and anyone else with questions!

Trader Joe's is awesome!

With the tainted wheat gluten in pet food, and with them now wondering if it got into human food, maybe we should all eat like we have celiac disease.

RE: yur kweschun on owr fowntain, is it loud? Yea, it's kinda loud. You don't have to have it cranked up as much as we do though. The Drinkwell fountains are very quiet if you want to get a pet one. Or, we've also got the Homco brand or whatever from Walmart and those are very quiet. Maw bleaches our fountains every 3 weeks to clean them, and uses distilled water in them only to stop mineral deposits.

Hi Suzanne & Toni - Hello from Bellingham - I read your limerick this evening - We have two kitties - Sinda is a B&W tuxedo cat who is 17 years old and Neelix is about 10 & a BIG long haired ginger kitty. We also have sheep and chickens - and had new lambs born last night here on our little farm. We are close to the airport in B'ham and it is a small airport, but noisy enought - I'm sorry that you have to listen to airplane noises all day long - Well, I'm off to check on Brandi & Rascal. Nice to meet you :-) T.
